The book, Shaker Baskets, is the definitive study of Shaker baskets.

The foreword to the book reads as follows:

Martha Wetherbee and Nathan Taylor have filled a large gap in the study of Shaker crafts that needed their particular gifts. All interested in things Shaker owe them much.

Where so many have been willing to take “Shaker” loosely, Martha and Nate have not been satisfied unless they could confirm that there was an intrinsic basis for any attribution. They have discovered the details that identify Shaker work and the reasons for them. In their study of Shaker baskets, they have set a new standard for what Shaker research should be. Their book is a monumental work. It is a pleasure to endorse and introduce it.
